Leitrim Contract for Leader Programme 2014 - 2020 Signed

Leitrim LCDC to oversee rollout of Leitrim LEADER programme

Leitrim Local Community Development Committee (LCDC) will be responsible for the oversight and delivery of the Leader element of Ireland's Rural Development programme in Leitrim. The Programme budget is just under €6million over the lifetime of the Programme.

Minister Heather Humphreys signed the contract for the new programme with representatives of Leitrim LCDC, Leitrim County Council as the financial partner and Leitrim Development Company as the implementing partner at an event in Cavan on July 8th last.

Leader funding is targeted at priority areas identified in the local development strategies developed by local action groups (Leitrim LCDC) and evaluated by an independent evaluation committee. Projects can come from areas as diverse as enterprise development, rural tourism, social inclusion and the environment.

Further details on the rollout of the programme will be announced over the coming weeks and applications will be submitted to the Implementing partner, Leitrim Development Company. The decisions on grant approvals or otherwise will rest with Leitrim Local Community Development Committee (LCDC).

Leitrim LCDC was established in 2014 as part of the reform of Local Government. Leitrim LCDC has 17 members  made up of elected members of the Local Authority, Local Authority staff (Chief Executive and Head of the Local Enterprise Office), local community interests and representatives of Public Bodies (HSE, Teagasc and Dept. of Social Protection) and local development bodies.
